THE WHITE STORM And SNOWPIERCER Bookend Hong Kong Asian Film Fest
The full line-up for this year's Hong Kong Asian Film Festival has just been unveiled and it looks to be an incredibly strong year, bookended by two of the region's most hotly-anticipated thrillers. Opening the festival on 25 October is the world premiere of Benny Chan's drug trafficking drama The White Storm, starring three of Hong Kong's most prolific actors of the moment, Nick Cheung, Lau Ching Wan and Louis Koo.

Perhaps more exciting, however, is that Bong Joon-ho's stellar science-fiction thriller, Snowpiercer will be closing the festival on 19 November, screening in its full Korean version ahead of going on general release in the city the following week. Other highlights of the programme include a special presentation of Tsai Ming Liang's Stray Dogs, winner of the Special Jury Grand Prize at this year's Venice Film Festival.

Also screening in the packed festival are Kim Ki-duk's dialogue-free Moebius, Kurosawa Kiyoshi's Real, Koreeda Hirokazu's Like Father, Like Son and Hong Sang-soo's Our Sunhi. The festival is also featuring a special spotlight on Cambodian documentarian Rithy Panh, screening six of his films including his latest, The Missing Picture

Other regular sections return, including Cineaste Delights, New Talent Awards and Asian Wide Angle, as well as dedicated programmes highlighting first-time Hong Kong filmmakers and Taiwanese documentaries. This year's Midnight selection is also looking good, with Fantastic Fest favourites Sono Sion's Why Don't You Play In Hell?, Sabu's Miss Zombie, Eiji Uchida's Greatful Dead and Mattie Do's Chanthaly all featuring.

As if that wasn't enough, the festival is also screening three classics from Indian Cinema master, Satyajit Ray - The Lonely Wife, The Coward and The Holy Man. So it's going to be an incredibly busy and beautiful few weeks. But if you can't wait, see below for links to reviews of some of these films we caught at earlier festivals.
