The Many Faces Of John Hurt

With Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer finally, FINALLY, in theaters on US soil, let's pick one of its many fine actors for this week's quiz. And as Song Kang-ho and Tilda Swinton were already covered in the past, we quickly turn to John Hurt.

In Snowpiercer, John Hurt plays a role he's often done before: a man who is somewhat dilapidated, kind, benevolent, a learned academic, and very, very British. You'd almost forgot he has played an impressive string of villains as well, including some of the foulest dictators and emperors ever to (dis)grace a screen!

Therefore, once again I'm going to use a gallery of ten close-ups of one of my favorite thespians to make a quiz, so click through the images and guess which ten movies they're from. No competition, no prizes, just for fun, try to see how far you get without using IMDb.

And I'll post the answers on Thursday, unless someone names them all correctly...

And here he is in Snowpiercer as Gilliam, the spiritual leader of the downtrodden people in the back of the train.

This shot doesn't count yet as part of the quiz, but all the next ones do. So flick through the gallery and have a go!

Yeah, well... if you didn't see his name on the credits, how would you be able to tell?

Tom WoodsJune 27, 2014 8:33 PM

Oh, that's just tricksy.

DJ_BobbyPeruJune 28, 2014 1:04 AM

Spaceballs? There was an Aliens parody scene that I think Hurt did where he recreated the chest burst.

Ard VijnJune 28, 2014 5:04 PM

SPACEBALLS is correct!
That just leaves films 3 and 4...

owenJune 28, 2014 7:31 PM

3: Little Malcolm and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs
4: Rob Roy

Ard VijnJune 29, 2014 6:10 AM

Right and right. And that concludes the quiz!

Also, there was Joerg Nagorski on Facebook, who had all correct except SPACEBALLS (he fell into the ALIEN trap).
Ed Blackburn identified SPACEBALLS.
