Title For INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel Revealed
Nearly two decades after Independence Day wowed audiences with its winning combination of X-Files fuelled UFO interest, grand scale disaster movie spectacle, Top Gun style aerial heroics and Big Willy Smith himself, Roland Emmerich has called action on a sequel, which shall henceforth be known as Independence Day: Resurgence.

Jeff Goldblum cemented his position as Hollywood's go-to A-List boffin/sceptic during the 1990s, thanks to his role as Chaos Theorist Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park and The Lost World, as well as in Independence Day. Goldblum will be reprising his role as David Levinson for IDR (which I'm guessing we are to call the sequel to ID4), alongside Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner and Vivica A. Fox. New additions to the cast include Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner, Angelababy and Grace Huang. The casting of those last two delectable actresses suggests at least some of the action will take place in or around the Hong Kong/China region.

Shooting began in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the film is scheduled to hit cinema screens on 24 June 2016.

The official synopsis goes like this:

Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
