The Many Faces Of James Gandolfini

This week sees the release of Michaël Roskam's The Drop, known once upon a time as Animal Rescue. However, it will in all probability also be known as "The Last Movie With James Gandolfini In It", as the late beloved actor (who died more than a year ago already - how time flies...), has an important supporting part in this film.

James Gandolfini often played to his build: a terrifying, hulking brute of a man, with a face mean enough to hate. But he was also surprisingly effective when counter-cast as the sole voice of reason, or when showing a sudden spark of intelligence, of humanity. It's no accident that he was often given character arcs with elements of redemption in them, as he was so damn good at showing these kind of changes, and the doubt and heartbreak that sometimes comes with them.

So once again I'm going to use ten close-ups of one of my favourite thespians to make a quiz. Click through the images and guess which ten movies they're from. No competition, no prizes, just for fun. Try to see how far you get without using IMDb.

I'll post the answers next Thursday (or earlier if someone gets all ten of them right).

And here he is in The Drop as Cousin Marv.

This shot doesn't count yet as part of the quiz, but all the next ones do. So flick through the gallery and have a go!
