Masters of Cinema Tease ONIBABA Blu-ray Release With Superb Original Trailer
Responsible for many of the best Blu-ray releases of 2012 in the UK, Eureka's connoiseur label, Masters of Cinema is set to continue its winning streak into the new year with the release of Shindo Kineto's demented classic, Onibaba on 25 February. Arguably the most well-known film from Shindo, who sadly passed away earlier this year at the grand old age of 100, Onibaba is the terrifying story of a young woman left stranded in a remote hut with her mother in law, eking out a meagre living by preying on passing samurai. From its stark black and white photography, to its demonic imagery, Onibaba remains one of the best Japanese horror films ever made, nearly 50 years after its release.

In order to whet our appetites for the film's Blu-ray debut in the West, Masters of Cinema has today directed our attentions to the film's original theatrical trailer, which will feature on the disc along with a gorgeous new 1080p restoration of the film. Other extras on the upcoming disc include:

• Full-length audio commentary by director Kaneto Shindō and the stars of the film, Kei Satō, and Jitsuko Yoshimura
• Video introduction by Alex Cox
• 8mm footage (40-minutes) shot on location by lead actor Kei Satō
• Optional English subtitles
• Original theatrical trailer
• Production stills and promotional art gallery
• 36-PAGE BOOKLET with a new essay by Doug Cummings, an English translation of the original short Buddhist fable that inspired the film and a statement from writer/director Kaneto Shindō about why he made Onibaba
