Yes, the New CLOUD ATLAS Trailer Looks Amazing, But ...
Set for its first public screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, Cloud Atlas is definitely phenomenal from a visual standpoint.
The newly-released trailer swirls through settings that range from the 19th Century to the far future with great panache, showcasing the likes of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Bae Doona, Hugo Weaving, and Jim Broadbent playing multiple characters in a story that spans centuries But will it make any sense from a narrative standpoint?
That's probably the biggest challenge faced by writing/directing collaborators Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer, and I'm as eager as anybody to see whether they accomplished their goals in bringing David Mitchell's sprawling novel to life. But I have to wait until it opens in theaters on October 26, while folks attending TIFF can share their opinions this weekend.
We'll have a review as soon as humanly possible. Until then, enjoy the trailer.
