Overlook 2023: Full Lineup Announced, Including World Premiere of RENFIELD And EVIL DEAD RISE Set to Close
Our friends at the Overlook Film Festival have just announced the full lineup for this year's festival, returning to the Prytania Theatre in downtown New Orleans from March 30th through to April 2nd.
Dropping the mic off the hop Overlook will host the world premiere of Christ McKay's horror comedy Renfield. McKay will be in attendance with the man, the myth, the legend himself, Nicolas Cage! That's not all. While Renfield will open this year's festival Lee Cronin's anticipated Evil Dead Rise is all set to close the weekend's festivities. Uh, holy crap!
On top of McKay and Cage coming to the festival horror royalty Joe Dante will be in attendance for a 30th anniversary screening of his film Matinee. He will be joined by his lead actor John Goodman! In the spirit of Matinee there will also be a screening of William Castle's The Tingler where the festival promises surprise live elements.
Lauded titles included in this year's lineup include the hilarious Smoking Causes Coughing, the forboding Spanish horror/sci-fi The Elderly and indie sci-fi The Artifice Girl and recent Sundance title My Animal.
Sporting not only a kick ass lineup of films the festival is expanding its events this year as well. Grady Hendrix will be in town with his one man show How To Sell A Haunted House In A Challenging Market a show about haunted houses, hot on the heels of the release of his latest book How to Sell a Haunted House which is quite excellent. While in town to screen his newest film Brooklyn 45 director Ted Geoghegan will host an Overlook Edition of his Final Exam Horror Trivia night. These are among musical presentations, magic shows and a bevy of immersive presentations.

The horror festival will welcome audiences back to America’s most haunted city with 50 films (26 features and 24 short films from 12 countries), along with extensive offerings including interactive events, live performances, immersive programming, parties and more scary surprises.The festival will open with the world premiere of the highly anticipated modern vampire tale Renfield, starring Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) as the titular tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula, played by Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage. A Universal Pictures film based on an original idea by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield is directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The LEGO Batman Movie) with a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Ghosted, Rick & Morty), and will be followed by a live Q&A featuring Nicolas Cage and Chris McKay. Renfield arrives in theaters April 14.
