The Many Faces Of Tom Noonan

One of the creepier aspects of Anomalisa is how all people in the world (bar the two leads) speak with the same voice. That voice belongs to Tom Noonan, who is a scriptwriter and director, but also a formidable character actor with loads and loads of memorable parts, often in genre classics.

Therefore, let's dedicate this week's quiz to him! Once again I'm going to use eleven pictures of one of my favourite thespians to make a quiz. Click through the images, and guess which movies or shows they're from. No competition, no prizes, just for fun, try to see how far you get without using IMDb!

And I'll post the answers next Thursday, or earlier if someone gets all of them right...

Kurt Halfyard, Dustin Chang, and Andrew Mack contributed to this story.

And here he is in a behind-the-scenes on-set interview, explaining his role as "Everyone Else" in Anomalisa.

This picture doesn't count yet for the quiz, but all others do, so please browse through the gallery: click on the edge of the picture to get the next one, and see how many of them all you can identify!

3: Robocop 2
6: House of the Devil
8: John Carpenter's The Thing (not sure)
10: Last Action Hero
11: Cannot remember the title: it's the first version they made of "Red Dragon" (with Hannibal Lecter played by somebody else than Anthony Hopkins and with that CSI guy as the lead actor).

ManateeAdvocateJanuary 8, 2016 11:26 AM

#7 Heat
#11 Manhunter

I love The House of the Devil. Absolutely love it!

ManateeAdvocateJanuary 8, 2016 11:26 AM

Nah, he wasn't in The Thing. Looks like that pic was taken from it though.

#11 is Manhunter

GuyJanuary 8, 2016 11:42 AM

Manhunter! Thank you!

YojimboJanuary 8, 2016 1:49 PM

Brian Cox played played Lecktor and in my humble opinion did a better job than the hammy over the top pantomime that Hopkins turned in.
William Petersen is CSI guy and Will Graham.

GuyJanuary 8, 2016 1:53 PM

Brian Cox? I forgot about that. I should watch it again.

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 6:01 PM

You have 3, 6, 10 right, and the right movie for 11 (though I'll give that one to ManateeAdvocate, who got the name first).
That leaves 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9!

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 6:01 PM

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 6:02 PM

That just leaves 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 9...

ManateeAdvocateJanuary 8, 2016 6:22 PM

Brian Cox was indeed masterful in that role.

muckermanJanuary 8, 2016 6:25 PM

#4 = The Monster Squad!

Todd FeldsparJanuary 8, 2016 6:25 PM

4. Monster Squad
5. Synecdoche, New York
9. The Wife

YojimboJanuary 8, 2016 7:07 PM

The first time I came across Mr Noonan was in
8. Wolfen
Is number 1. one of those spider movies?

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 7:45 PM

That just leaves 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9...

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 7:45 PM

That just leaves 1, 2, and 8...

Ard VijnJanuary 8, 2016 7:46 PM

Correct, and yes.
That just leaves 1 (need a title!), and 2...

YojimboJanuary 8, 2016 8:17 PM

All the names of those spider movies where deleted from my memory banks, I'm getting old.
Shows you how little impact those movies had on me.
Number 2. no Idea haven't seen it, he looks like a cop in the pic.

JahsoldierJanuary 9, 2016 9:08 AM

That spider pic is Eight Legged Freaks.

I think pic 2 is the Alphabet Killer. Not sure though.

Ard VijnJanuary 9, 2016 2:10 PM

Both correct!

Ard VijnJanuary 9, 2016 2:15 PM

And that concludes the quiz! As usual, here are the titles and the people who first named them correctly:

3: ROBOCOP 2 (Guy)
4: MONSTER SQUAD (Todd Feldspar)
5: SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK (Todd Feldspar)
7: HEAT (ManateeAdvocate)
8: WOLFEN (Yojimbo)
9: THE WIFE (Todd Feldspar)
11: MANHUNTER (ManateeAdvocate)
