"Chewie, We're Home" - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Teaser Trailer 2
With an hour-long presentation by J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and a bunch of cast and crew (including an almost magical appearance by BB8, the don't-know-how-they-did-that-but-probably-with-magnets stood that wobbled out on stage), fans were treated to this latest peek into what's to come next December.
From a wide establishing shot that passes a downed Imperial Star Destroyer (with a crashed fighter in front), to TIE Fighters, X-Wings and the Falcon sweeping through, the nostalgia on this one is set to the highest level, making many giddy at the return.
All the right things are being said - it's a return of sorts to the "used universe" of the Original Trilogy, and from the looks of things there will be plenty to go gaga for.
Yes, that's a charred Vader mask, and that saber that gets passed around was owned by Luke and Leia's dad. We get a better look at the new troopers, some nice variations on classic shots from Return of the Jedi, and a general sense that in this new trilogy things are going to get a lot darker before they get light again.
Plus, that capper - yes, it's good to be back. Yes, it's good to come home.
ps. You'll note the shot above echoes this:
..which isn't a frame from the original film, but a publicity shot. It's was used on posters, puzzles, and many more items to advertise the crew of the Falcon. It's a shot that feels like it was in the movie, but wasn't. Meaning, of course, that it's perfect for J.J.'s new go 'round to echo this, as for many their memories of SW are a mix of pop culture and merchandising, and not always strictly drawn from the films that started off this whole adventure in the first place.
