Feel like being SUCKER PUNCHed? Even on BLURAY it underwhelms.
This underwhelming effort from visionary director Zack Snyder lacks exactly what made all his other films films work; a strong sense of what makes the tale worth telling. I'm a big fan of Dawn of the Dead (2004) and 300 (2006) and even Watchmen (2009) and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010), for all their issues, had their hearts in the right place. Sucker Punch feels just like what the title implies. It feels like I've had my trust violated a little. There are nothing but visuals here. Everything else is clearly taking a backseat to the overblown mildly interesting CGI action sequences. And it must be mentioned that for a film that is supposedly about self empowerment the overall aesthetic, which mixes sexual and physical abuse and school girl fetishism is troubling in all the wrong ways. And for an R rated film utilizing sexual metaphors it doesn't go nearly far enough or demonstrate ideological confidence n what makes the story interesting to begin with. You get a few extras including behind the scenes featurettes but the real bonus here is Snyder's pic inĀ pic commentary
