First Teaser for LEGEND OF THE FIST: THE RETURN OF CHEN ZHEN
Media Asia has debuted the first teaser trailer to Andrew Lau's Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (精武風雲.陳真) with Donnie Yen portraying the fictitious martial-arts hero Chen Zhen, a role also been played by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury and Jet Li in Fist of Legend.  Unlike the previous incarnation of Chen Zhen, there is a mix of secret agent and superhero spin to the character.  Produced and scripted by Gordan Chan, the spiritual sequel also stars Shu Qi, Anthony Wong and Huang Bo.  Here's the official synopsis:
While China is traumatized by military cliques during the Warlord Era in the 1920s, Shanghai is the cynosure of all eyes.  People see it as both Hell's Kitchen and Heaven's Gate.  One of the city's most memorable heroes has to be Chen Zhen, who single-handedly avenges his mentor's death by killing all the Japanese at a dojo in Honkou, only to be showered with bullets while making his legendary flying kick.  Vanished from the public eye ever since, he has taken for dead though his body is never found.

Seven years later, a wealthy entrepreneur called Koo returns from abroad and makes a grand entrance on the Shanghai social scene by befriending the notorious mafia boss of the city.  This mysterious man is none other then Chen Zhen in disguise who dwells in a world of nefarious means in order to infiltrate the criminal empire.  He soon discovers a clandestine collusion between the mafia and the Japanese.

Disguised as a caped crusader at night, Chen sets out to dismantle with his martial arts skill the evil collusion that plaques the country.  One of his foremost missions is to ferret out the assassination list prepared by the Japanese.
The theatrical release date is on October 1st.  You'll find the one-minute teaser (Cantonese with English sub included) embedded below.

Goddamn Donnie Yen is just embarrassing all the action stars right now!!! They should have cast this guy in the Expendables...

JayMay 10, 2010 2:27 PM

i like how they pretty much used Jet Li's costume from the "Black Mask"

CuttermaranMay 10, 2010 2:30 PM

The parcour through the battlefield is a genius idea.
Want to see more.

DooKMay 10, 2010 2:41 PM

Donnie continuing his crusade of great movies filled with character distinctions and action choreography creativeness. He's untouchable.

DooKMay 10, 2010 2:42 PM

Looks more like Kato's.

andrewzMay 10, 2010 2:57 PM

Are you sure Wong Jing isn't involved in some manner? The plot synopsis sounds like something out of his book. It sounds more like a comic book than the clip does, but perhaps that is the goal. I'm just having problems seeing the character of Chen Zhen (either Li's or Lee's performance) going undercover to run a criminal organization for years while running around after dark in a Cato outfit.

Donnie Yen is just rediculously awesome. He's got a batch of great stuff coming out. Go Donnie!

ZOMBOID79May 10, 2010 3:45 PM

Donnie Yen continues to destroy..I hope his statement about retiring is officially out the window now..He's proven he's in his prime

Superhero story in combination with historical environment looks so awesome. I was actually afraid of all this superhero staf, but it came out as possibly the best idea in the movie. Can't wait.

SaisenseiMay 10, 2010 4:37 PM

This will be a superhero portrayal of the story of chen zhen which in my opinion will work since chen zhen was almost invincible in fist of fury and fist of legend. Im sure donnie will deliver with the fight choreography and this film will be another donnie classic!! DY is the man

JayMay 10, 2010 6:38 PM

very true, since Black Mask was based on Kato ... still sad we won't get to see Steven Chow as Kato =(

xinoMay 10, 2010 6:54 PM

movie will not be as great as Fist of Legend, but it's nice to see another Donnie Yen movie!

Favreau Talks Iron Man 3. Yes, Already.

"Iron Man" film series director Jon Favreau says we might next be getting the character's greatest nemesis, The Mandarin, when a third installment eventually gets underway.

Talking with MTV News, Favreau says "You have to do The Mandarin... The problem with The Mandarin is, the way it's depicted in the comic books, you don't want to see that. He also has ten magical rings, and it just doesn't feel right for our thing, so it's either tech-based or the rings are not really rings."

Favreau setup hints of the Mandarin in the first film with the terrorist organization called the 'Ten Rings' mentioned in the credits. The comic character, a Fu Manchu-style Asian caricature with ten magical rings, would have to be updated though. As far as casting goes for the Mandarin says Favreau, I've got my eye on 3 candidates at this time; Martial Arts Pioneer Donnie Yen, Chow Yun Fat recently did an excellent portrayal of Confucius he practically had the Mandarin look right there you should check that out, & that model turned actor "Rain" from Ninja Assassin. So far though only Donnie has actually responded with interest in the role; but we'll see.

Of course a lot depends upon Marvel Studio's upcoming slate including "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "The Avengers". The helmer says "What's going to have happened by then? With 'Thor,' you're going to have all this supernatural stuff happening and magic and there's a lot of stuff going on in the world. If it's going to match the comic books, it's going to be incredibly complex for film."

But he's not thinking of leaving Tony Stark high and dry either - "I would like 'Iron Man 3' to pay it off".

Jesus H. Christ Donnie Yen is going to leave me broke buying all these damn HK DVD's. I was skeptical when I first heard of this project due to the super heroics and I thought it would be another waste of Donnie's talents with too much wire fu but I am pleasantly surprised. This has jumped to the top of my Donnie wish list now! I loved the fist of fury series with Donnie so I know this is going to deliver. Whenever Donnie is in the choreographers seat expect another award winning fight sequence. Donnie is f****** not human! Can we now all agree this current Donnie era sh!ts on the Jet Li 90's???

This movie is quite embarrassing; as it builds up on the Chinese defeat against Japan and the 'glorious' resistance of one Kung Fu fighter and some handful of loyal followers saving the Chinese 'honour' --- again and again´, over two hours!
("The Chinese are not crazy men of East Asia!" And then you can see a fist flying into someone else's face...)
Whoever may like this movie - fine. I could mostly only see old propaganda for a country that still does not accept human rights to their own people today.
