Third Window Picks Up A Trio Of Korean Titles For UK
First off is Shin Su-Won's PLUTO, a dark look at bullying, class hierarchy and murder in an elite high school where people will do anything to get into prestigious Universities. PLUTO was a runaway hit at last year's Busan Film Festival and went on to play in Berlin, Edinburgh and many other established film festivals.
Similar to PLUTO, and one of the best examples of young and independent film-making from Korea in the past few years is BLEAK NIGHT, which is also a very dark look at a murder within a closely knit group of young friends.
On a completely different note is BEHIND THE CAMERA, a wonderfully witty mockumentary from E J Yong, the director of Untold Scandal, Dasepo Naughty Girls and Asako in Ruby Shoes. It's a great film for those who watch a lot of Korean films as there are many amusing in-jokes, but it still works as a fun and interesting film for those who like mockumentaries or films about making films.
