First Shot From Oxide Pang's SLEEPWALKER

UPDATED - During a meeting with the good people at Universe earlier today, they shared with me the full synopsis of SLEEPWALKER. Here it is, but please beware of spoilers:

Yi (Lee Sinje) is an ordinary woman living a mundane life. Over the years, she has been bothered by a repeated dream, in that dream she stands alone in a wasteland, unaware of the mystery buried underneath.

One day, Yi meets a handsome young man, Eric (Li Zong Han), when he comes to Yi's clothing alteration shop. The two lonely souls are quickly drawn together, particularly after Yi shares those strange dreams with Eric.

Elsewhere, Sergeant Au (Huo Si Yan) desperately pursues a kidnap-murder case, in which her nephew is the missing hostage in the case. Ransom has been paid, but the kid's whereabouts remain a mystery. Tortured by extreme anxiety, Sgt. Au's sister Peggy (Charlie Young) turns hysterical, she radically accuses Sgt. Au of her incapability of tracking down the culprit. Their relationship is in turmoil, but Sgt Au sympathizes with her sister and vows to bring the kidnapper to justice.

Eric's effort still falls short to comfort Yi, details of Yi's nightmares are getting more and more sophisticated. She is further reinforced to believe that she might have really walked on that wasteland and possibly killed someone while sleepwalking as she finds her bedside stained with mud in the morning

Sgt. Au crosses paths with Yi when she visits Yi to investigate missing case of Yi's ex-husband, Ming. Yi is in absolute shock, but she quickly jumps to the conclusion that she killed Ming, as she hated this unfaithful man from the bottom of her heart. During interrogation, Yi gives all the details and confesses she might have killed her husband in her sleep.

Following the clues hidden in Yi's dream, Sgt. Au leads her team to the crime scene, however, the body claimed to be buried underneath is nowhere to be found....

Director Oxide Pang is now in post-production on Sleepwalker, his new 3D thriller starring Charlie Young and Angelica Lee, and we've been slipped the first image from the film. Here's the official synopsis:

Yi has never imagined a revolving dream haunting her every night would evolves into to a nightmare in real life. Shortly after a dream man enters her gloomy life, Yi, a sleepwalker, is set back again by a past broken relationship and becomes a suspected murderer of her ex-husband. The clearer her dream develops, the more real the accused crime appears to her. Did she really kill when sleepwalking?
The Pang Brothers have an uneven filmography, to be sure, but the presence of Angelica Lee in this gives me great hope. Calling her the Pang's muse seems appropriate not only because she's married to Oxide but because she has starred in all of their key Hong Kong work - The Eye vaulting all involved to stardom and Re-Cycle bringing the trio to Cannes. Lee and Pang is a working relationship that simply works. She has never been as successful without the Pangs at the helm and they always seem to up their game for her as well.

Also on the plus side here is that Pang has already shown himself capable of putting 3D technology to great use. Whatever people may have though of The Child's Eye - the previous time Pang shot in 3D - there was no questioning the effectiveness of the 3D set pieces. The man's always been a strong visual stylist and 3D gives him another tool in his arsenal. Taking a look at the shot above it's easy to see how it has been constructed to take advantage of the 3D technology, the entire thing being staged specifically to showcase the depth of field.

We'll be keeping out eyes open for the trailer.
