Fantastic Fest 2019: JOJO RABBIT, IN THE TALL GRASS, FRACTURED, Takashi Miike Lead First Wave
The first wave of genre films that will be playing at Fantastic Fest for its 15th edition has splashed down upon us, and baby, it sure feels good!
Held annually in Austin, Texas, the festival will kick off with Taika Waititi's satire Jojo Rabbit and will also feature the world premieres of Jim Mickle's sci-fi serial killer flick In the Shadow of the Moon, Vincenzo Natali's horror adaptation In the Tall Grass, and Brad Anderson's desperate drama Fractured.
And then there's Takashi Miike, who will appearing in person to present First Love and soak up some spirited fan appreciation. (What kind of spirit? Well, I recall a very spirited discussion between fans about which one of his approximately 1,400 films was the most twisted and deranged, and it ended in a fist-fight.) (Ok, no fist fight; words only.)
As is practically a tradition now, Quentin Dupieux's newest film Deerskin will screen, along with the world premiere of Peter Van Goethem's Night Has Come from Belgium. The lineup goes on and on with films that I've been wanting to see, and I'm sure that will all look glorious on the screens of the Alamo Drafthouse movie complex.
Need I remind you: this is only the first wave. Drive carefully as you weave through the lineup (so far) that I've only touched on above. Some of us will also be in attendance to report on what we see from the world of wonders that is Fantastic Fest.
(Verbiage below provided by the festival.)
