Malayalam Cinema's Onam Releases continue with the WELCOME TO CENTRAL JAIL Trailer

There is a bit of a joke that makes the rounds every now and again, about how to go about making a Malayalam blockbuster.  The punchline is that if all else fails, just sign Dileep.  The mimicry artist turned actor (and producer -- he counts amongst his production ventures Malarvaadi Arts Club, the debut film from director Vineeth Sreenivasan, which also happened to be the debut film of current Malayalam heart-throb Nivin Pauley) is often chided by his critics for failing to branch out much from his trademark comedy, but it's a winning formula that works, most of the time.

After a gap of some thirteen years, Dileep re-unites with director Sundar Das (the pair worked previously on four films, including the popular Salapam and Kuberan) for another Onam film release, Welcome to Central Jail, in which Dileep stars as a kind of Good Samaritan who takes the punishments for the petty crimes of others.

The film's trailer sets us up pretty solidly for a fun, family, holiday entertainer.  Dileep is breaking no new ground in his career with this film, but given how funny he can be in a film that supports his comedic talents, one could expect that he has another hit film in his filmography.  Dileep himself has said that he's no dancer, but in an industry not particularly known for its dancing talent, he can at least be counted on to make the effort and give his audience some splashy dance numbers.

Welcome to Central Jail is written by Benny P. Nayarambalam (who also wrote the Dileep films Marykkundoru Kunjaadu, Spanish Masala, and Sound Thoma) and co-stars Vedhika, Renji Panicker, Aju Varghese.  The film was shot in the Poojappura Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) as well as in Kochi.
