Exclusive Trailer for THE LIGHTHOUSE: The Sea And The Madness
I love horror films that are set in the past, before mobile phones, internet, even before cars; the more isolated, the better, without the distraction of modern life interrupting what makes us truly afraid. When all you have is other humans and nature and the thin line that separates you from violence and insanity. Such seems to be the case with The Lighthouse, a new feature film directed by Chris Crow (Devil's Bridge, Panic Button) and produced by David Lloyd (Devil's Bridge).
Starring Michael Jibson (Les Miserables, The Riot Club) and Mark Lewis Jones (Troy, Master and Commander), it tells the true story of the Smalls Island incident of 1801, off the coast of Wales. Quite macabre, and all the more sinister for being plucked from history.
Thomas Howell and Thomas Griffith are posted to a lighthouse on Smalls Island, where manual labour must keep the fires lit and the ships away from deadly rocks. They are left stranded by a freak storm that last for months, leaving them in isolation, with only each other for company. Tensions begin to run high, and madness quickly descends on the men, leading to a violent confrontation.
Made in collaboration with Ffilm Cymru Wales, the BFI, BBC Films, S4C and Edicis, Soda Pictures is planning a UK release on July 8th. In the meantime, you can view a few choice pictures and the wonderfully chilling trailer below.
