The Return Of THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD From Scream Factory Looks Amazing

I have professed my love for Dan O'Bannon's The Return of the Living Dead many times on these pages. It is, without a doubt, my favorite film of all time.

So, when Shout! Factory horror sub-label Scream Factory announced that they'd acquired it for release in the US, I was tentatively excited. There is an exceptional release of the film in the UK from Second Sight, which features the long unavailable original audio, and I thought it was going to be tough for Scream Factory to manage those rights, but I'm happy to say that it appears they've done it and their release details looks stellar.

Also included with this new release are a boatload of new and expended bonus features to complement a new 2k transfer of the theatrical release, and a SD version of the hard to find workprint version of the film. back that up with new commentaries, new featurettes, and a collection of most of the available supplemental materials across half a dozen previous release, and this could be the definitive version of the film on the market. To say I'm ecstatic would be a radical understatement.

The Return of the Living Dead is due in stores on July 19th, but, if this is more than just a costume to you, if ROTLD is a way of life, there are exclusive offers available in the Scream Factory store that will get you bonus posters, slipcovers, and a three week headstart on the rest of the world. Do it!

And finally, we’d like to address the question of the soundtrack, which we know many of you have asked about: For our new transfer we have gone back to the original audio tracks to create a new soundtrack. Only one song - The Damned’s “Dead Beat Dance” - could not be cleared for inclusion on the disc unfortunately. Otherwise, the rest will be the original audio as heard in the theaters when the film played first.
