New GAMERA Footage Is A CGI Frenzy
Kaiju films are hot as hell lately --- relatively. We had the Godzilla reboot --- with very little Godzilla, the two upcoming sequels, Pacific Rim, the rumblings of Pacific Rim 2, the first new Toho Japanese Godzilla film in over a decade, Attack on Titan (which could arguably be categorized as kaiju), and now Gamera.

In this footage, we see what looks to be a CGI opera, with flying dragons, explosions, widespread destruction, and of course, the giant turtle who fights back against the bad monsters. Within it, a boy escapes death, but it's not too serious, as his dad runs behind him, yelling: "Outrun them and I'll buy you ramen! Dumplings! Unlimited game time!" Although it appears that two-thirds of the footage is CGI, there's a pretty cool effect with a dragon's face getting melted from its skull and its eyeball popping from the heat of Gamera's flames. Maybe it won't be just a hokey kid's film, but a return to the darker realms of films like Gojira.

With both the Japanese and American Godzilla films currently filming or in development, it's not out of the realm of possibility that both the lizard and the turtle star together in an epic battle of wills. It's likely that they'll start out fighting each other, some worse creature will appear to destroy civilization and humanity, and that Godzilla and Gamera will team up to fight the evil monsters off. All conjecture, but if you know the Toho universe, it's a tried-and-true storyline.
