SPL 3 Green-Lit!
Following its massive opening in China on June 18, SPL 2: A Time For Consequences is still going incredibly strong at the Chinese box office and has already grossed over RMB500 million (US$80.6 million). At its celebration event in Hong Kong last night, one of the film's producers Paco Wong announced that the next installment in the SPL franchise has already been green-lit.

The details about SPL 3, including its director and cast, have not yet been released. So far, the first two films have starred a number of amazing fighters including Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung, Wu Jing, Tony Jaa and Max Zhang. Which action stars do you want to see in the cast of SPL 3?

My dream match. Donnie Yen vs Iko Uwais

PSYJuly 3, 2015 4:00 PM

Bring Jason Statham and Scott Adkins in as villains opposing Donnie Yen and Iko Uwais/Tony jaa. Cameo from Tak Sakaguchi and Dan Chupong would be nice :)

A cameo from Cynthia Rothrock? She still looks good in her late 50's.

Yuen Biao would be great. Anyone who's seen him in On The Run knows he can be great as a tragic hero. Andy On (who I believe was supposed to have Max Zhang's role at first in SPL 2) would fit right in also.
They should also get a new director. Law Wing Cheong for instance.

Tak is a good call, and he's been training super hard lately too.

Donnie Yen making a return as the lead actor, with Jason Statham or Mark Dacascos as the main villain

Hugo OzmanJuly 3, 2015 10:56 PM

I'd love to see a re-match between Donnie Yen and Wu Jing.

ToryKJuly 3, 2015 11:44 PM

Realistically, I'd just love to see Donnie, Wu Jing, Sammo, and Jaa all in the same movie, with Sammo and Donnie sharing action duties.

I can see his skill, but the movies he's in just lack something. Punches and kicks are so clearly not connecting, it just starts to look silly after a while. But I think with the right stunt direction, it could be great.

Every martial arts actor would with a good director make something beautiful on screen. As a villain, I would choose Chris Collins who trains many Hong Kong movie stars to put him vs any big name. He would keep up each top martial arts actor easily at full speed, either armed or empty handed. One does not have to do their best to look good in a fight. Like Donnie Yen vs Jet Li in Once upon a time in China 2.

I'm pumped! I might be going off topic here but does anyone know what's the status on "One Good Thing" I think that could be a pretty kickass martial arts movie.

marshy00July 6, 2015 1:56 AM

I know at least one person at this site who should know something about the status of ONE GOOD THING...

Daniel ParedesJuly 6, 2015 5:35 AM

Oh man, ever since I've seen the IMDB page for it listing both Yayan "Mad Dog" Ruhian and Marko Zaror I've been picturing a hell-a balls to the walls punch/kickfest!

albertvJuly 6, 2015 11:43 AM

If they are still going with a thematic sequel for the third, I think it's time to bump Max Zhang from supporting to lead role. I think he has the skills and look to make a good action lead IMO.

Todd BrownJuly 6, 2015 11:57 AM

The status is that I'm not currently allowed to talk about it. It aint dead, though.

ErikJuly 6, 2015 10:40 PM

Iko Uwais

Daniel ParedesJuly 6, 2015 11:29 PM

Thank god it's not dead! When The Night Comes for Us got cancelled it broke my heart quite brutally.

ManateeAdvocateJuly 7, 2015 1:09 PM

She does and I'd love to see her make a return. If I'm not mistaken, I believe I saw her in a trailer for some weird softcore gay fighting movie. It was really creepy. I clicked on the trailer because Rothrock was in it, then, I was like, okay, I'm not the target audience for this. Kinda wondering if gay men would even like it. It was really cheesy. Whatever. Bad tangent.

Rothrock in SPL 3. Make it so.
