BROKER Trailer: When Your Business Is Selling Organs, Life Looks Like This
It's Monday morning in North America, which is when most everybody grumbles about going back to work and the daily grind. But if you live in The Netherlands, and happen to be an organ broker, there are no weekends, and every hour of every day is an unholy hell.
That's the attitude exuded in the trailer for Broker, a new film by David-Jan Bronsgeest that looks dark, brooding and menacing, qualities that match the storyline.
Worn down by a lonesome life of crime, a solitary organ broker finds himself spending many a sleepless night looking for truth at the bottom of a bottle. When, after a chance encounter with a helpless victim of his diabolical business, he is presented with an opportunity to radically break free from his wayward existence, he sees no other option but to take it. Rescuing the victim, a young woman, from the ruthless syndicate he is involved with, our man starts down a path from which there is no return.
Yorick van Wageningen stars; the veteran actor's many roles stretch across the years, but the one I remember most quickly was his very nasty character in David Fincher's remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the one who was horrible to Lisbeth Salander and then had vengeance visited upon him. More recently, he demonstrated his range in a terrific lead performance in The Resurrection of a Bastard, which screened at Fantastic Fest in 2013.
The cast includes Katarzynna Siewarga, Frank Sheppard, Ward Karremans, Tarikh Janssen, Jord Knotter, Leonid Vlassov and Chloe Leenheer. The 22-minute short film just began the festival rounds, so keep an eye out for it. For now, you can watch the trailer below.
