Indiana Jones is coming to IMAX! RAIDERS hits the big screen in September
indy.jpgAs part of the run-up for the forthcoming Blu-Ray release of the Indiana Jones series of films, Paramount is launching for one week only Raiders of the Lost Ark onto IMAX screens.

I had a chance to see the restoration "print" of the film back in January, and frankly the film has never looked better. Much like the work Universal did on Spielberg's Jaws, the team behind the new digital master have managed to maintain the look of period film while presenting an image of incredible luster and stability.

Films blown up to IMAX size via the DMR process are usually hit-or-miss, especially with the limitations of certain CGI shots. For a film like Raiders, however, we're sure to see far fewer of the problems that creep up in such "blow-ups". Despite the fact that this week-long engagement hits right in the middle of TIFF, I'll be sure to take time away and check out this remarkable film (one of the finest ever made!) presented in such a venue.

Spielberg's interest in the IMAX format isn't just tied to this release - there are rumours floating about that he's doing camera tests for Robopocalypse, taking a page from Nolan and Bird's handbook and maybe bringing yet another mainstream, big-budget film to the 15perf/70mm format, no DMR required.
