Troma Video Prepares To Unleash ASTRON-6 Upon The World This December 13th!
Following the mind-blowing world premiere of Astron-6's first feature length film, Manborg, at Fantastic Fest 2011, Troma is releasing a DVD compilation of their many short films. You may remember Lazer Ghosts 2: Return to Lazer Cove from our coverage of that brilliant piece a few years ago. You have also seen the posters and updates for their remake of Father's Day, premiering tomorrow night at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Well, here's even more great stuff from one of our favorite independent film companies!
The promotional material from Troma was a little bit vague, so I asked the guys at Astron-6 for a little bit of detail regarding what we can look forward to, and this is what they had to say:
It's all the shorts, some unreleased shorts, lots of commentaries etc. It for sure has COOL GUYS, LAZER GHOSTS 2 (with some BTS), KRIS MISS, NOBODIES, HIZ, FAT ADAM, and commentaries on all those. It also has HEART of KARL (with commentary), INSANOPHENIA, FIREMAN, all GOREBLADES, INFERNO OF THE DEAD, GHOST HUNTERS and more!!If you don't know about Astron-6, I suggest you look up Lazer Ghosts 2 and see what you're missing. If you aren't psyched for this release after that, you can go to hell!
Here's what Troma had to say:
Five friends, a love of film and a suicide pact. In Tolkein lore, Astron-6 is the day of the Elvish New Year, and a new year is upon us indeed....From their first meeting at The Winnipeg Short Film Massacre, the five men instantly found themselves embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Rather than destroy each other, the sworn enemies decided to unite - and then destroy themselves (once famous). Astron-6 is the brainchild of these five iconoclastic, multi-media artists who share a fascination with the mechanics of fear and laughter. They subvert the expectations of the seasoned viewer with the nightmarish and absurd. Their imagery and recurring themes are often torn from the childhood of the irony-craving, internet savvy Generations X and Y. That is, they often lampoon genre films of the 1980s.Below, you can find a NSFW celebrity promo/show reel of what Astron-6 is all about. Check it out!
