If marketed correctly, and it certainly is in this snappy trailer, Errol Morris' documentary film is an elaboration and exploration of one of the kinkier, kookier, crazier stories from the British tabloids could hit the rarified box-office air of $20M+. As one of the talking heads says quite succinctly, there is something in this story for everyone. Joyce McKinney's story of true love which blossoms into obsession, and runs through the ringer of celebrity, church conspiracy, kidnapping and other tangents best left for the film to reveal is one of modern society perfectly walking the line between comedy, tragedy, sensationalism and intelligent inquiry. I cannot recommend this movie enough, but if you don't want to listen to me, let the style and tone of the trailer convince you. It may look light and fluffy and bombastic, but I think it is one of Errol Morris' most interesting and complex movies to date.
As a bit of great counter-programming to the summer spectacles, Tabloid opens July 15th, go see it!
