Good News / Bad News As Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego Takes Over APOLLO 18
It's a good news / bad news scenario for fans of King Of The Hill (El Rey de la Montana) director Gonzalo Lopez Gallego.
On the good side, Lopez Gallego has just picked up the directing gig on the Timur Bekmambetov produced found-footage style scifi project Apollo 18. He's a good fit for this, I think, and it's a relatively low risk way for him to make his English language debut.
The bad? The film is being produced by The Weinstein Company and they're determined to get it into theaters by March in an attempt to beat Oren Peli's similarly themed Area 51 to the punch. Yeah. That's four months from hiring the director until the planned release. If successful this will surely set some sort of new land-speed record for studio level film production. You may draw your own conclusions as to the chance of success.
