Do Not Besmirch Emma Stone. Easy A Trailer Fake-Rocked my World
Yes, the cinematic auteurs are gathering at Cannes for a celebration of world cinema. And yes, we don't really cover much in the way of teen sex comedies, particularly Hollywood studio ones, but along the same lines of Evan Peters' line in Kick-Ass, "I think I'm in love with her, Dude." If there was ever a chance for a young actress to prove she has chops, confidence, and overall sexiness, Emma Stone knocks it out of the park. My Rowthree.com colleague points that when they reboot the Spiderman Franchise, Ms. Stone should be a no-brainer for Mary-Jane. The actress never made much of an impression in Superbad and I never
actually caught Zombieland when it played here, but now I have a damn
good reason to visit (or re-visit) both. I usually skip these types of
films because they are rather repetitive and ho-hum, this one was
kicking around on the nets for a day or two before I bothered to look at
it.
...But I digress. The film here, following an Election, Clueless, Mean Girls vibe of smart teen comedy as much for adults as the target audience, is called Easy A. And it certainly has my attention. Supporting Stone's knock out central role is the always fantastic Patricia Clarkson, as well as Stanley Tucci, Malcolm McDowell.
Incidentally, that is probably the best and most appropriate use of an overplayed Lady Gaga song, ever.
