Trailer for Short ASHEN Hints At Gorgeous Nostalgia
Earlier this year, we shared the incredible sci-fi short Hibernation. Jon Mikel Caballero's film was a throw-back to old school 1970s science fiction, as much about human relationships as about the science, beautifully shot and perfectly performed. Lucky for us, he has a new short with an amazing trailer.
Soon to be on the festival circuit, Ashen, like Caballero's first short, is an homage to older science-fiction, though this time that of the 50s. This was the early days of comic books, days when fear of communism and the cold war translated into the metaphor of aliens and invasion from outer space. In the film, young Em is looking forward to celebrating her birthday, when her father asks her to wait in the family home's junk room with her comics. Does he have a big present for her? Is there a surprise? Or perhaps a surprise waiting for him?
The trailer has me greatly anticipating the film, which stars Adam Quintero (who was also in HIbernation and Open Windows) and a pretty cool looking little girl. Hopefully it will be unleashed at a festival near our readers soon.
