ASTRO BOY To Get A Live Action Adaptation
THR broke the news Thursday morning that Australian production house Animal Logic Entertainment will be working with Japan's Tezuka Productions to give Tezuka Osamu's manga Astro Boy a live action adaptation. Astro Boy has had every incantation from manga to cartoon to feature animated film but never a live action film.

Animal Logic Entertainment has done a lot of VFX work for Hollywood films including the upcoming Avengers Age of Ultron and The Lego Movie. Outside of their effects work they have begun producing their own films.

Their goal is to take Astro Boy from being just a kid's movie to one with four-quadrant appeal. Which means the film will target the four demographics: male, female, and over and under 25 years old.

Animal Logic Entertainment's Zareh Nalbandian will produce the film and spoke about the project.

"We've seen him as a manga, an anime and an animated movie but we've never seen him as a live-action movie or him as a superhero," said Nalbandian. "We actually see him in the same league as an Iron Man."

"We want to make it aspirational but not soft," added Nalbandian.

I also suppose that the news that Animal Logic is working with Tezuka Entertainment may mean that the Japanese studio has some sort of say in the film's production. We will just have to wait and see.

Animal Logic is looking for a writer at the moment and no director is attached. So this live action film is likely still a ways away.
