First Trailer For Mizui Maki's Abduction Drama KEPT
Due to have its world premiere at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival later this week, before playing in competition at Boston Underground Film Festival on 28 March, we get a first look at Kept, the debut feature from Mizui Maki.

Mizui, who worked as assistant to Sono Sion and then Nishimura Yoshihiro, purportedly based the script on her own personal experiences as a sex crime victim. The story follows a young woman (played by original AKB48 member Kayano, who is abducted by a serial rapist, only to forge a strange relationship with her attacker and escape unharmed. But when the attacks continue she faces persecution and guilt for not reporting her own experience to the police.

Nishimura also serves as a producer on Kept, together with long-time associate Marc Walkow, as well as co-editor with the writer-director. The first trailer may be a little rough around the edges and doesn't appear to give much plot away, but it's definitely evoking an incredibly bleak and somber tone, and there's a whiff of fantasy there too with the owl-like figure in the woods. Check it out below.
