New SPRING BREAKERS Trailer Wants To Show You James Franco's Shit
Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers is a strange one, no doubt about it. A weird sort of fever dream of American excess and aimless youth populated by former Disney girls and an utterly mad James Franco it is a film that many will likely hate but which I personally absolutely adore, one of the fun parts for those of us fortunate enough to have seen it already is getting to watch the marketers turn themselves in knots figuring out how to sell it to people. The recent American trailer for the film got this largely wrong by trying to pack what I'm increasingly convinced is a very smart bit of satire into a box shaped exactly like what the film is satirizing but this new French effort? Yeah, this one gets it right.

Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) and Faith (Selena Gomez) have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun.

A serendipitous encounter with rapper "Alien" (James Franco) promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.

It would probably be a red bander if it were released in America so do be aware of who is around when watching. Check it below.

I hate the britney bit. These knowing winks to audiences need stomping out. Skyfall was rife with the overplayed moment i.e. the moneypenny shot.

Have you seen the movie or are you just talking about the trailer? The Britney stuff actually leads to one of the film's best moments, IMO.

Not seen it yet, just commenting on the trailer. It's nice if it works well in context, that bit at the end just screams, look look look disney girls gone bad singing britney. It's why i added the bit after to clarify that i'm still seriously looking forward to it. Korine is demented and he seems to infected James Franco with his lunacy.

Todd BrownFebruary 1, 2013 5:17 PM

Oh, yeah. Franco is out of his mind.

Even though its a film, imagine your daughter grew up to be like this. The more I think about it it just feels like the girls depicted in here are somewhat an accurate reflection of terrible girls behaving terribly. I certainly hope the movie doesn't influence and nurture girls to behave so outright promiscuous and disgustingly terrible citizens.

The Britney/slomo sequence is truly a site to behold. Definite highlight
