Nicolas Cage Officially EXPENDABLE? Eastwood, Ford, Snipes Also Named
While Stallone's film was by far a better concept than actual final product, and with advance word on the sequel decidedly mixed, I for one am happy to see this series run and run, swapping cast members in and out as necessary, Magnificent Seven/Wild Geese/Dirty Dozen style until every wrinkled old beefcake has had their moment. Cage seems a perfect fit for the series. True, he came to action relatively late, but I always loved the fact that he followed up a well-deserved Oscar win with The Rock, Con Air and Face/Off. These days he rarely does anything else.
Eastwood seems less likely, although with the upcoming Trouble With The Curve, he's proving once again that he's not done with acting just yet. If he were to appear it would likely be a brief cameo similar to Schwarzenegger's blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in the first film. Ford, however, could certainly use a hit, if he can be wooed away from his ranch long enough and is willing to bring a little enthusiasm to the screen. Snipes, on the other hand, I can see making an excellent villain and I relish the idea of him going toe-to-toe with Stallone again in a Demolition Man re-match! No doubt he's had time to bulk up while doing his time.
Without opening the inevitable can of worms and inviting a stream of increasingly obscure shout-outs for over-the-hill action stars who never got their dues, it's about time for our bi-annual discussion on who we would like to see joining the ranks of the Expendables. Personally, I'd love to see Kurt Russell get on board (apparently he passed on the first film) and how about Michelle Yeoh? I know there's a girl along for the ride this time but the series needs a woman with some experience and credibility.
What say you, Internets? Will Cage, Eastwood, Ford and Snipes fit the bill? And if not, who?
