Hong Kong is Under Siege - COLD WAR Trailer Strikes!
This teaser poster says it all really. In Cold War, the Hong Kong police force is out of its depth, over the edge and in serious life-threatening peril when the city falls under siege of a ruthless gang of terrorists. What's worse is that the antagonists may very well be cops themselves, or at least have inside knowledge of the force's tactics, response procedures and resources after nabbing a van-load of top-level police equipment and weapons.

Cold War is being touted as a new breed of cop thriller, examining the power struggles, corruption and inner workings of Hong Kong's police force - at a time when it is facing increasing pressure from Mainland China to reform its methods and apply more stringent policies. The film marks the debut of Art Director turned Writer/Director Longman Leung, in collaboration with Sunny Luk, long-time Assistant Director for the likes of Herman Yau and Ching Siu Hung, and boasts a mouth-watering all-star cast that includes Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Charlie Young, Gordon Lam, Chin Ka Lok, Andy On, Terence Yin, Eddie Peng, Aariff Rahman, Byron Mann and even Andy Lau.

Synopsis (Possible spoilers ahead):

In Asia's safest city, the police have long been untouchable. Approaching midnight in Hong Kong, police headquarters receives an anonymous call: a fully-loaded police van carrying the force's most advanced equipment and five highly-trained officers has disappeared off the grid. The hijackers possess direct knowledge of police procedures. They're already steps ahead. The police must meet a list of demands to ensure the hostages' release, including the delivery of a large ransom. Any delay will cost lives. The clock has begun to tick.

Rival Deputy Commissioners Sean Lau and Waise Lee fight to take charge of the rescue operation, code named COLD WAR. Lau wants to negotiate with the hijackers while covertly tracking them to their hideout. Lee is ready for an all-out aggressive attack, no matter the cost. For them, there's much more at stake than the safety of the hostages or the reputation of the police. With the Secretary for Security stepping down, the seat will soon be vacant. COLD WAR will decide who climbs to the top.

Lau and Lee are aware that every decision is crucial, that each minute counts. But as they execute a carefully planned attack, little do they know they've become unwitting pawns in a bigger, more dangerous game...

Co-produced by Edko Films, who also own Hong Kong's Broadway Cinema chain, Cold War will hit Hong Kong screens on 18 October but has already been teased for months, with self-aggrandising behind-the-scenes style trailers proclaiming the film to be unlike anything Hong Kong action fans have seen before, in much the same way that films like Murderer and Nightfall were before it - and we all know how those turned out. So Cold War should be approached with a certain degree of wary trepidation at this stage, but the first proper trailer has just arrived, and it hints that the film could be...just maybe...something worth pinning a little hope to. Check it out and let us know what you think.
