[SHITTY UPDATE!!] Make Every Day FATHER'S DAY With Astron-6 On Blu-ray This June 12th!
UPDATE! In their infinite wisdom, Troma have decided to scratch nearly all of the great sounding bonus material from the Blu-ray release of Father's Day. There will be no director's commentary, no feature length making-of, and, most sadly, no CD soundtrack. This is truly a kick in the balls to Troma's highest quality feature in at least a decade, and makes me very upset. This is an asinine decision, since all of the material is already prepared and would probably be a very minimal cost to include. I cannot get my head around their logic, but suffice it to say, that I'm really bummed out.

I'm just going to say it:

Astron-6 are among the best filmmaking teams working today.

Sure, some of you won't get it, and some of those who do get it won't like it, but you'd be wrong. Father's Day is already in my top ten films for 2012, and it's going to be an uphill climb for any film to knock it out of that spot. Their crazy attention to detail in recreating their favorite sleazy exploitation favorites of the '70s and '80s is eerie and provides a wonderful point of departure for fans of similar films to get into the action.

This June 12th, just in time for, well, Father's Day, Troma is releasing their latest stab in the eye of decency on 3 disc Blu-ray/DVD/CD combo pack. There are plenty of extras to be had, including a director's commentary that I'm looking forward to after experiencing their remarkable commentaries for the previous DVD collection of their short films. Most exciting among the extras is probably the inclusion of a CD soundtrack for the film, a soundtrack that is steeped in the '80s synthtastic exploitation feel up to its eyeballs.

I can't wait!  Check out the synopsis from Troma:
The urban legend known as 'The Father's Day Killer' began some years after the demise of serial rapist/murderer Chris Fuchman. Since the 1970s, the use of contraceptives has tripled in North America alone and a generation of fathers fell asleep with the covers pulled tight, buttocks clenched. †The story has become a fire-side cautionary ritual on camping trips, often used by fathers to warn their sons of the dangers of unplanned pregnancy. That deep seeded fear of penetration, violation and eventually death waned as the murder and rape of fathers continued to decline all over the world. Unfortunately those numbers didn't remain low, and it would seem that the legend is not yet complete.
