Ghibli Retrospective: The Kids Talk MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO
ScreenAnarchy is certainly not the youngest of movie websites, and a number of the writing staff have children that are old enough to understand and consume media in a way that is both raw and fresh, but also with the inklings of consideration.  In short, this is the age where many of us fall in love with the movies.  Thus, we are offering you the perspective of smaller children as they react to seeing classic animation on the big screen.  And what better way to kick things off with the works of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and the folks at Studio Ghibli.

With the 15 film Ghibli retrospective in full swing at TIFF Lightbox, we are a little slow out of the gate, but plan on playing catch-up really quick.  In the video below, are my kids, Willem & Miranda (aged 8 and 7, respectively) talking about My Neighbor Totoro in the cinema lobby immediately after the screening.  This one of the Ghibli films that they have enough familiarity with (having seen it many, many times on DVD), that they have shortened the title of the film down to simply, Totoro, and can get into the films unique style of storytelling.  Also, some observations on the peculiar rodent-detailing on the Catbus.
