First Look At Vikram's KARIKALAN Is Pretty Gnarly!
Period epics seems to be all the rage in South India these days.  One of my most anticipated films of the fall is Suriya's 7aam Arivu, which apparently involves a time machine going back to 1400's Tamilnadu, also on the forecast is Rajnikanth's Rana, of which we've seen period costumes in promotional photos.  The next one coming up looks like it will be Vikram's Karikalan, which has been described as a period-cum-contemporary drama.  With angry elephants.  Rock. I fucking love elephants.

The first look posters from Karikalan feature some nasty looking business.  There are a few big ass pointy swords, some armored elephants, a dude in a crazy evil looking turban, and some sort of lashing weapon that looks very painful.  My guess is that in addition to the drama, we'll get some butt kicking.

Vikram was most recently seen on these pages in the endlessly mockable trailer for Deiva Thirumagal, the Tamil language I am Sam ripoff.  While that was hilariously awful, the trailer I mean, Vikram was also the main actor in a film that we covered back in 2009 called Kanthaswamy.  In case you don't remember, Kanthaswamy was a film about a chicken-masked superhero, and it is completely nuts.  So, I guess I'm saying that Vikram's got range.

He seemed pretty competent when it came to whupping butts in Kanthaswamy, so I have faith that this will be worth keeping an eye one.  Karikalan is still shooting, so we probably won't see any footage for months, but I'll keep you guys posted just in case this turns out to be worthwhile.
