Severin Films Celebrates 5 Years With A Sale
Those of you who've read my Video Home Invasion column (to return after I settle some personal business), know that I love Severin Films.  They have a great roster of films, and they are expanding their business all the time.  They've gone from fantastic euro-sleaze (A Perversion Story, Black Emanuelle), to classic slashers (Bloody Moon), to video nasties (Cannibal Terror), to full on cult classics (Santa Sangre, Inglorious Bastards, The Stunt Man, Psychomania, etc, etc) all in the space of five fantastic years.  They've done all of this without forgetting their roots and releasing great classics from the 70's and 80's while still pushing forward with their own in house feature productions.

What really gets me excited about Severin, though, isn't what they've done, but what they've yet to do.  They are always announcing neat new projects and releases.  We're still waiting to hear the details on their release of House of Seven Corpses and Horror Express.  They're in post-production on their first completely in house film, the horror omnibus, The Theatre Bizarre, which features some really fantastic talent in the directors' chairs.  They discovered and masterminded the break out bad film of 2010, Birdemic, which exploded like nobody's business throughout both the underground and straight film world.  I get excited every time I get an e-mail or a press release from Severin, because I know it's going to be something awesome.

In celebration of their fifth anniversary, they've decided to do something for the fans.  Severin Films are having a 50% off directly from their website from Wednesday June 15th through June 17th.  The discount applies to everything they've released prior to 2011, and for everything released this year, there will be a 20% discount.  That is, in many cases, way less than you'd see on Amazon or other retailers.  Normally I'm not in the habit of promoting sales, but this is a good opportunity to fill some holes in my own collection, and I hope you take advantage and pick some of their truly awesome releases.

Also on the Severin Films homepage is a great retrospective piece on the history of the label that I really found interesting, even after devoting thousands of words to them through Video Home Invasion.  Support these guys!  They do it right!
