Kurt Wimmer Pens POINT BREAK Remake
In 1991 Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow made a big splash with Point Break. The Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves surfer / heist movie was a guilty pleasure for a great many people and developed a loyal cult, so much so that the film has never really gone away and the rights holders have been looking to capitalize on the title again ever since.

The last attempt to bring back Point Break began in 2007 when word came out that original writer Peter Iliff was on board to write and direct a sequel set in Indonesia. Iliff was later replaced by Speed director Jan de Bont in the director's chair but stayed on as writer. Keanu Reeves was never involved but - while not widely reported - I'm told Patrick Swayze was and Swayze's 2009 death was a major factor in Point Break: Indo being shelved.

Well, apparently Point Break isn't dead yet.

Twitch received word from a source today that another Point Break film is in the works, though now it is being envisioned as a remake rather than a sequel. Cast and director still need to be attached but Singapore based producers RGM Entertainment - who were also behind Point Break: Indo - are actively developing a remake of the title with a script by Kurt Wimmer - director of Equilibrium and writer of Salt, Total Recall, The Thomas Crowne Affair - as the basis. While the original film built action sequences around surfing and sky diving this remake will apparently balancing the surfing with skiing. There is no word yet who is being approached to star or direct.
