Like most of Tim Burtons films Mars Attacks offers better visuals than anything else, including some particularly haunting ones. One of my favorites are the giant Martian robots. But the rest of the film plays like It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad War of the Worlds. Occasional laughs (albiet solid ones) and mitigated by a sprawling unnecessarily complicated story that, after all, is based on a series of trading cards. The design for the martians , however, is inspired and has continued to generate fan collectibles etc.

One would think that Bluray would be the perfect format for a film like  Mars Attacks but this is definitely a case where the CGI sticks out more than it does on the DVD. That said the colors look awesome, flesh tones etc. The lack of extras here is curious. Mars Attacks is, by any critical estimation a pretty mixed bag. Any commentary or doc that didn't discuss the movies failings would be sort of sad. That said I wouldn't mind knowing more about the history of the card set, set anecdotes etc. There's definitely room for improvement in future editions
