Say Hi to Your First Swine Flu Disaster Flick
Just as SARS did back in the day, human quandaries and the endless shenanigans of pharmaceutical superpowers constantly prove to be good filler for a disaster flick, and now its directors can always claim they played it softer than Roland Emmerich. So, no, not everyone but a chosen lucky few will survive, but it'll be a pretty grisly sight nonetheless, when Korea serves us with the first H1N1-themed blockbuster. Remember Ahn Byung-Gi from copycat horror flicks like 가위 (A Nightmare), 폰 (Phone) and 아파트 (A.P.T.)? Now head of Toilet Pictures, Ahn announced to the press today what's next in line for his company: first is a sequel to last year's surprisingly successful - and hilariously, humongously bad - teen slasher 고死 (Death Bell), while the second project is a slightly more intriguing blockbuster entitled 감기 (Flu).

Thanks to the incredible success of disaster flick 해운대 (Haeundae), investment has inevitably started fueling a slate of blockbusters which will hit Chungmuro next year, in the form of war-themed films to "celebrate" the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, and project flicks like this. iHQ, Toilet Pictures and music mogul Kim Gwang-Soo's Core Contents Media are joining forces for the project, which will take advantage of the current H1N1 craze - a few actors in the business were hit by the flu as of late, last in line popular TV sageuk 선덕여왕 (Queen Seondeok)'s Kim Nam-Gil and Lee Seung-Hyo. Still no word on any director or cast as there will be another press conference on December 1, but we'll keep you posted.
