Don't Anger The Reindeer. A Trailer For Norway's KAUTOKEINO REBELLION

I suppose it would be more accurate to say don't anger the reindeer herders and while angry herdsmen may seem an unlikely subject for a period set action-drama that's exactly what we've got with Nils Gaup's Kautokeino Rebellion. Gaup's The Pathfinder was nominated for an Oscar back in '87 so the man definitely knows what he's doing with a camera and this looks to be an impressive piece of work, beautifully photographed in one of the world's harshest environments.

For centuries the northern Scandinavia has been inhabited by the native sami population and their reindeers. Set in 1852, modernisation is about to enter the desolate village of Kautokeino where authority is held by the ruthless and prosperous liquor dealer Ruth. One of the native tribes, led by young woman Elen, refuses to pay their unjust debt to Ruth, leading to one of the most dramatic episodes in northern Scandinavian history.
