Well this was a very interesting week here in Korea. D-War kicked some major tail this weekend but what is the real #? Film 2.0 list a # of 2,267,900 tickets sold. Kobis list 2.7 million tickets sold. We also have KBS WORLD Radio stating that "two-point-nine-five million tickets were sold." So to be honest I have no actual idea how many tickets were sold this weekend for D-War. "May 18th" looks to be losing a little at the box office. Transformers has officially broken the 7 million ticket sold. D-War will need 10 million tickets sold in Korea to break even. Once again with D-War I am hearing 2 different stories 1. That 1500+ theaters in the USA will show D-War next month. 2. IMDB has D-War as a limited release. The next month show be interesting to follow the Korean Box office and the foreign take on D-War
All of this does pose a question? Is D-War the future of Korean films? Will we see more monster movies or will we see more English and Korean combined in A film, so it will be easier to sell to Japan, USA and the E.U.. As of now, Korean film are not selling that well, so will Korea adapt or are we in the stages of a repeat of the collapse of the Korean Film Market? I do not know the answers. It will be interesting to see what answer Korea gives us.
