Distribution rights for Robert A. Jansen's Complexx are now being offered for sale by DC Medias. The movie had its world première at the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in Utrecht, the Netherlands on October 1st of last year.
The screenplay for Complexx was written by Jansen. The movie stars (listed order corresponds to order on cast page of official website) Sebastiaan Labrie as Simon, Sander Foppele as Mike, Kirsten Walraad as Myrna, Yolanthe van Kasbergen (a.k.a. Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen) as Lianne, Arno Hazebroek as Xander, Negativ (a.k.a. Maurits Delchot) as Max the burglar (inbreker), Mischa van der Klei as David Berinni, Filemon Wesselink as Lianne's brother, Virginio Papa as Danny the gatekeeper (portier), Klarissa Patijn as Corinne, Zdenka Nieuwenhuizen as Bianca, Nicole Hermans as Xander's mother, and Ron Coppus as Rick the vent-shaft boy (jongen in ventilatieschacht).
Here's a description of Complexx from the website of the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival (AFFF): "Fun fairs in horror and science-fiction films - there's usually something dodgy going on. That's what Robert A. Jansen must have thought when he visited amusement park Go Planet in Enschede. Parties of people can have a night of entertainment there in the Bar Brasil, the Mafia Café, the Wild West Saloon or the Après Skihut. Way back in 1973 a mechanical Yul Brynner destroyed a theme park just like this one in Michael Crichton's memorable Westworld. Jansen immediately saw the potential in the Enschede centre: 'Stick six young people in there, add a psychopath, and you have a film.' It never gets any more intricate than that either, but the result is highly entertaining.
The platinum blonde Myrna (Walraad) attends a gaming convention where games guru David Berinni demonstrates his new online computer game Darkplanet 2 to his fans. Myrna and five other gamers receive an invitation to an extra special game at night, after the guards have locked all doors to the last one. Soon reality and fiction start to merge and real-life victims start to fall.
Jansen has no problem managing the huge spaces in the deserted building complex, the ventilation shafts and the steel doors. Actor Sander Foppele (Costa, Onderweg naar Morgen) revels in the darkness of his character, which adds a lot to the suspension.
Because that's what Complexx is, despite its low budget: fast, suspenseful and smooth. It's odd then, that there was just silence after its premiere at the Dutch Film Festival 2006. Luckily the AFFF gives its audience a second chance to see this first Dutch SF-thriller on the big screen."
