'Greg & Gentillon' presented by PeepingTom Films

Hey there kids. It's story time. It was 3 years ago that I attended a fundraiser for a stage production a friend was running. Part of the fundraiser was a two-man routine performed by a couple of guys I had never seen before, dressed in bad leisure suits with horrible haircuts/wigs on.

What ensued however, was the funniest act performed live I had ever seen in my life. No kidding. These 2 sincere(?) French-Canadian(?) comedians(?) entertained us with a show about two guys trying SO HARD to please an audience. That blurred reality line left everyone in absolute hysterics. The routine finished, the characters exited the venue - and I never saw, or heard about them, again. Until 2 weeks ago.

Acting circles run smaller than you'd think and I found myself sharing a table with someone I had seen "around". That someone was Thomas Michael. His face was one of the faces that was buried beneath that mullet wig all those years earlier. So, we got to talkin'...

And as it seems, the appropriate gods have smiled upon him and his collective bunch as those two characters have been put to film: A feature film. It's 'Greg & Gentillon' and it has been made an Official Selection by the Calgary Film Festival screening later this month. Followed by the Festival du Nouveau Cinema Montreal.

While you can see the trailer at peepingtomfilms.com, I told them I would take it easy on their bandwidth, so I uploaded their trailer to rapidshare, so please use this is if you can:

A quasi Mocku-documentary, the film follows the two 'craftsmen of comedy' as they travel from the cozy confines of Aylmer, Quebec (a.k.a. their entire fan base) and defy the Mighty Hand of Fate as they (try to) tackle the not-so-fertile soil of the Toronto Comedy Circuit.

I've yet to see the the film, however, having sat in the same room and lay witness to these guys just unload their goods on an audience, I'd be DAMN sure I'd catch it if I could.

'Greg & Gentillon' screens in Calgary at the Globe Theatre on Sat., September 24th at 3:15pm. I'll bring you up to speed on the Montreal date (sometime in October) and other works Peepingtom has on the spit as it happens... or when I feel like it.
