You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine!
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland dare you to stare at the sun for more than five seconds! Look at it. Bask in its glow.
The tandem are working together again [their previous efforts were The Beach and 28 Days Later] on the sci-fi thriller Sunshine and word was released yesterday that Cillian Murphy [28 Days Later and Batman Begins], Chris Evans [Fantastic Four *cough*] and the future Mrs. Mack - Michelle Yeoh [Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon] will join the cast of this film.
The story goes something like this. The sun is dying so humanity is trying to give the poor thng a boost with a freaking nuclear bomb. Thing is, seven years earlier, a crew was sent before them and they vanished! New crews bumps into old crew. Everyone screams, "Waaaaaaugh". People die. People live. They save the world. Commence clapping and searching for your car keys as you leave the theatre saying to your friends, "That part didn't scare me - my phone just vibrated and it startled me". Production begins in August.
In other Boyle news he has apologized for The Beach. He admits that he had nothing in common with the backpackers on the beach and that it wasn't Leo - whom he calls "a sweetheart" and "a brilliant actor". The director describes himself as "a city boy" and that if he goes to the countryside, after half a day he's out of his mind, bored. The idea of 'escaping' was alien to him and he says he really didn't know what he was doing there. Online.ie
In other Garland news he has handed in the script for the Halo video game adpatation. Microsoft wants $10 million and %15 of the box office gross. Damn. Cinema Confidential
