OFFICER DOWNE Reports for Duty in First Trailer
Earlier this year, producer Mark Neveldine made a bold claim, stating that the upcoming comic book adaption of Officer Downe is “better than any Marvel movie or DC movie ever made.” While this kind of comment usually has mainstream comic book fans spitting vinegar, I would argue those studios are releasing some pretty generic, watered down cinema, so it's entirely possible he's just calling it how he sees it. Either way, Officer Downe barely resembles modern comic book movies which is why it's refreshing.
For my money, Officer Downe is already a winner when it casts Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates in the lead and holds a super R rating as a badge of honor.
This first trailer for the highly stylized adaptation has been released by Magnet and it certainly gives us a taste of the madness to come.
Synopsis: Adapted from the 2010 graphic novel by Joe Casey and Chris Burnham, OFFICER DOWNE concocts a hyper-real Los Angeles for the story of a savage LA policeman who is repeatedly resurrected and returned to active duty via dark science technology. When a rookie officer named Gable is recruited as back up, he discovers there's much more to the titular super-cop than a mindless law enforcement drone warring against a twisted rouges gallery of over-the-top super-villains.
While Neveldine is producing (and likely co-directing), the main director of Officer Downe is Slipknot percussionist Shawn Crahan and the film is written by comic book writer and Officer Downe creator, Joe Casey.
Officer Downe hits theatres, on-deman, Amazon video and iTunes November 18, 2016.
