THE MARTIAN: Matt Damon Sciences 'Something' Out Of The Official Trailer
The trailer for The Martian, starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott, landed this morning. It is full of a wide range of thrills and chills, hope and despair, and action and adventure. Then Damon will 'science the shit' out of a station made to last only 31 days last the four years it will take NASA to carry out a rescue mission. This is the Matt Damon in space that we wanted. The one that does not go bat-shit insane alone in space.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.

The Martian also stars Jessica Chastain, Kristin Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover and Kate Mara, to name a few.

It touches down in cinemas on November 25th.

It looks like a few changes may have been made from the book, but on the whole looks like it could be pretty solid.

I've stopped this fucking trailer at 1.58 I mean, come on, are you REALLY telling me they discover that he is alive during THE TRAILER?

Where did the mistery about discovering a plot go??????????

God of JoyJune 9, 2015 11:12 AM

it IS only a trailer, but having read the book it looks like there is a degree of the source material's humor here, despite the gung ho ernestness of everyone other than Damon. What is concerning is everyone drawing comparisons between this and Intersteller. Wholly different projects (hopefully) - The Martian would crash and burn if it took on Intersteller's serious tone.

80% of the book is based on him being alive and trying to survive. This is not a major spoiler.
