New EX_MACHINA Trailer Brings Designs And Curves
When Apple's Jony Ive wanted to bring curves to computers and software, I am not sure this was the end-game. It may very well have been, but leave it to science-fiction screenwriter Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go) to bring an element of sexuality and philosophy to this artificial intelligence thriller, which just happens to also be his directorial debut.

Ex_Machina, is a single location, three-hander drama, starring Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander. It premieres in North America on March 15 at the SXSW film festival, but has received strong word of mouth from several other film markets, where it has already received a commercial release. A24 is releasing it Stateside on April 10th.

Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test--charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan's latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated, seductive--and more deceptive--than the two men could have imagined.
