MEMORIES OF MURDER Coming to the Small Screen
It looks like Snowpiercer isn't the only Bong Joon-ho film getting the remake treatment. I don't normally cover TV news but I thought I'd make an exception for this. Considered by many to be one of the greatest Korean films of all time (it's my favorite), Memories of Murder is heading to the small screen in Korea as Signal.
Writer Kim Eun-hee (2006's Once in a Summer and Kdrama Three Days) will adapt the film, written by Bong Joon-ho and Shim Sung-bo, which itself was based on Kim Gwang-rim's 1996 play 'Come See Me'. No word yet on casting, but given Kim's stature in the Kdrama industry, not to mention the fame of the original film, I think we can safely expect a few big names.
This would be the second TV series is as many years to focus on the Hwaseong serial murder case which the film is based on. Last year, the show Gap-dong told the same story, though it was not directly related to the film.
The Kdrama realm is one I'm not very familiar with but this is something I'd be curious to check out.
