DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY Teaser: It's All Blood And Fire
Dibakar Banerjee returns to the director's chair after the critically acclaimed Shanghai with a brand new adaptation of the works of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.

Byomkesh Bakshy is a legendary Indian literary character, a detective on par and very much influenced by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Like Holmes, Bakshy has also been adapted to the screen, both big and small, numerous times with at least nine feature adaptations by Bengali filmmakers like Satyajit Ray (Chiriyakhana) and Rituparno Ghosh (whose final film was Baskhy story Satyanweshi and starred fellow Bengali filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh as Bakshy), as well as TV serials and other appearances. With a wealth of stories, 32 written by Bandyapadhyay between 1932 and 1970, Bakshy is a gift that keeps on giving for filmmakers and Banerjee's adaptation is only the latest in a long line.

Like Sherlock Holmes, Byomkesh Bakshy appears to be getting revamped for the current age with Banerjee's dark and gritty looking film. While the story is set is pre-Partition 1940's Calcutta, the look of the film is decidedly modern. Bakshy is played by up and coming Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput (Kai Po Che, Shuddh Desi Romance) as a young man caught up in something sinister. Calcutta, the City of Joy, is laced with blood and fire in this first look at Banerjee's adaptation, and I think I like it.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is set to release worldwide on April 10, 2015.
