Watch The First Trailer For The Wachowskis' JUPITER ASCENDING
Well. No one can say the Wachowski's do not dream big when it comes to filmmaking. The first trailer for their upcoming space opera Jupiter Ascending arrived today and it is every bit as ambitious as you would expect from the pair of filmmakers. Channing Tatum jumps around with pixie ears and Mila Kunis is drawn into an intergalactic power struggle.

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things.  Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks.  Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along--her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Whether audiences will embrace their vision and pack it in at the cinemas this July is another question. The science fiction space opera has struggled of late to find a footing in North America (see John Carter and Cloud Atlas). If it did not come in comic book form prior to hitting the silver screen then no one seems to bite. Whereas in the foreign market they fare a lot better. To its credit it has cast two hotties in Kunis and Tatum. And even better for Jupiter is Tatum's 22 Jump Street bows the month before and if that is a success perhaps that audience will want more 'Channing all over their Tatum' and carry over into July when Jupiter bows on July 25th.

It also has Eddie Redmayne which is reason enough to check it out. I thought I recognized him despite the brief glimpse we were given. His performance in Black Death was startling. And Tatum seems to go shirtless a couple of times if Magic Mike wasn't enough.

The trailer creates a lot of interest without giving too much away. Looking forward to this. Considering the Wachowski's spotty record, I've always wondered how they keep getting money for these expensive projects. The foreign market is the reason? Does that also explain Shyamalan?

More like JUPITER FALLING hue hue hue... I dunno, for some reason seeing Mila and him kinda gave me a sorta cringe... I just dont see their screen presence beyond their actual real life abilities... Im seeing this because the Wachowskis rarely make film so when they do I like to see wassup. Id rather have some nicer actors to look at. If you made Sean Bean the main actor and some no name british actress then Id be all over it.. but already casting two big names already takes me out of the atmosphere.

Another big fan of Redmayne here, he is the reason to watch Black Death. He's also great in Savage Grace (the one where he has sex with his mom) and The Good Shepard (the one where he is thrown out of an airplane by his father....

While I don't think the Wachowskis are always successful, I admire their ambition and their risk-taking, something lacking in many filmmakers. Also, just nice to have some original content.
