Actor Geoffrey Rush Named Australian Of The Year!
Acclaimed actor Geoffrey Rush has just been named Australian of the Year 2012. Each year, Australia celebrates the achievement and contribution of eminent citizens through the Australian of the Year Awards. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the award this evening, honoring Rush for 'his outstanding achievements in a lifetime career on the stage and screen and long term commitment to the Australian arts'.
The veteran actor has been acting for 40 years and has won multiple awards. Amongst his numerous acting achievements, he is one of the few actors who have won the 'Triple Crown of Acting' - an Oscar, a Tony and an Emmy. He was the first Australian born actor to win an Academy Award (for his mesmerizing performance in his 1996 film SHINE). He has appeared in many critically acclaimed films such as ELIZABETH and THE KING'S SPEECH, as well as massive commercial hits like the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise.
